Age 4-6 Let’s Play Music

Let's Play Music - Ages 4 to 6

Welcome to the exciting world of Let's Play Music, where your child will learn advanced musical skills using age-appropriate methods!

Music educators have long taught that the young child learns best through play, experience and discovery. Let's Play Music uses play as the medium through which difficult concepts and skills are learned.

If you were to peek in on a Let’s Play Music class, you would see:

· smiling, laughing, storytelling, skipping, singing, jumping
· rhythm games
· harmony through ostinato, rounds, counter melody
· independently playing instruments
· classical music puppet shows
· relative pitch development
· bonding between parent and child

As musical concepts and skills are presented in a playful, joyful setting, children absorb knowledge and ability.

The curriculum is organized into three sequential years. In the first year, we use engaging games and songs and incorporate tone bells to teach staff awareness, ear training, advanced theory concepts and rhythm skills. We also focus on developing the inner ear, vocal channeling, and singing on pitch.

In the second year, we transfer these skills to the piano where we learn chord notation, intervals, and harmonic improvisation. We also begin singing in harmony using rounds and canons.

By the end of the third year, students are playing piano at a level 1-2, transposing music, composing their own music, sight reading and sight singing, have developed relative pitch, understand classical form and are prepared to excel in further private piano instruction or any other instrument of their choice.

Parents attend with their child twice a month during the first year of Let's Play Music. In years two and three they attend once a month.
