Music Listening

Classical Music for Kids

There are lots of classical music books and CDs out there designed to engage kids. I love the Beethoven's Wig series. Their CDs have sing along symphonies - they are silly and engaging and cost about $10 on Amazon.com

Wireless Headphones

Listening can be amazing fun with the right tools. These are the best in children's headphones. Bluetooth, comfortable, great sound. Order on Amazon or directly from LilGadgets.

About My Classes

I love teaching music to young children because we target the "critical period" of the child's brain development. It's much easier for children to internalize the language of music during this time frame.

2-3 year olds: My youngest students are learning seasons, months of the year, and days of the week through rhythm and games! They are recognizing their names in print and honing in on fine motor skills.

4-6 year olds
My Red Balloon students are reading notes from the staff to play on their tone bells. They can keep a steady beat and intelligently listen to a classical music selection!

5-7 year olds
These young keyboard students can now play all the primary chords with their right hand and sing along while they do! The foundations they learned in previous years have finely tuned their ears to be able to produce harmony.

6-8 year olds
My most advanced students are in their 3rd year of instruction and are playing piano with both hands in a chorded accompaniments. They have learned about key signatures and are transposing simple melodies into various keys. They have learned all the notes names on the treble and bass clef staves. They are amazing little musicians!
